Join author, Heidi Beierle, for a talk and book signing for her memoir, Heidi Across America - One Woman’s Journey on a Bicycle Through the Heartland.
During summer 2010, Heidi Beierle pedaled solo from Eugene, OR, to Washington, DC, studying bicycle tourism and rural economic development. Beierle uses examples from this journey to describe a slow travel philosophy. Slow travel is Beierle's answer to: What does the future of travel look like? Her talk examines climate-friendly transportation options and equitable access to outdoor recreation, giving consideration to the effect of transportation on the environment and barriers people may experience to reach outdoor spaces. Beierle explores the transformative potential of slow travel on physical and mental health and well-being and the benefits of connecting with locals. Additionally, Beierle describes the challenges of climate extremes and uncertainties for slow travel and how slow travel addresses climate change. Beierle provides a simple framework anyone can use to make slow travel their own.
